Meeting Wrap-up 1/20/10
Posted January 23rd, 2010 by BrianMToast: To beer and knowledge
Thank you's Tom, Jeff, Randi, Glen
Educational Portion: Sanitation (Brett)
Always remember the trinity of sanitation: 1. Contact time 2. Mechanical removal 3. Consentration.
Brett highlighted PBW and StarSan
PBW needs to be mixed with water between 120-160 degrees. If you let it rest over night all of the organic muck should flush out
Brett does not recommend reusing PBW
StarSan: Don't fear the foam.
benfits it has a short contact time, and it isn't prone to staining like idophor.
Q&A during the social hour- If anyone would like to add some insight gleaned during the Q&A please inform the club
Thanks so much Brett for sharing your knowledge.
The educational portions for the next couple of months can be found below. (I know I use a ton of wiki's and that drives some of you nutz but it's the easiest way for me to organize club stuff in a public setting.

A committee has been formed and they will be making decisions as to what beers we will be brewing, when the competitions will be held, and where we will hold the competitions, and taking care of some of the organizational aspects. *I'd like to thank Tim K for his leadership with this project, without Tim this project would still be in the idea stage. An additional thanks to Tyler West & Tom Brohamer for donating the equipment, and Chris Cate for donating his considerable stainless steal welding skills. This project is a great example of why the club is so great- we have a lot of talented people among us and we can get a lot done with everyone's skills and expertise.
Teach a friend to Brew Day: Again another banner year. We had four brews going at once. And thanks to the guys at The Brew Shop for hosting us. I'm not sure what happened that day, as I was watching my Oregon Ducks get crushed by Stanford.:
December Group Brew: Geoff Marlowe will host. Check the Wiki.
Thanks to Meryl (sorry, Meryl, if I spelled your name incorrectly) Koaster for the wonderful food. I think the club is in agreement that was one heck of a spread. We can't thank you enough.
Heather has volunteered to cook next month. THanks Heather
Items club members would like to see on this next agenda: I may have rushed through this at the end of the meeting, so if you have suggestions for next month's meeting just email me.
Lastly, I'd like to extend a welcome to the new faces at the last meeting, including Joe's friends, and the guys from the east coast. Thanks for coming, and I swear I'll learn your names by next meeting.
