Sorry for the last minute notice, but due to the generosity of our club members it took a while to come up with the perfect location for our upcoming group brew. Our options included Ryan's stately residence in Crooked River, Tim's place (again), Mike's, or Dylan's. The consensus led us to Dylan's residence at "2094 NW Lakeside Place":http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2094+NW+Lakeside+Place,+Bend+OR&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=35.219929,71.455078&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1, mainly due to his centralized location, and his experience in making meads. The event was originally planned as a second pre-Hop Madness brewing event with an IPA being brewed, until we noticed it was the official AHA mead making day. Just as we did last year, COHO shall attempt to make another great mead, along with a hop packed IPA for our upcoming event. We'll be using Cascade and Sterling hops that were donated by Wildfire Brewing Company, along with some mystery bittering hops for the IPA. Madame Sergeant at Arms Jenn has volunteered the American 2 row for the brew. For the mead we ask for any donations of honey that may be available as Dylan formulates the critical recipe. If anyone sees or knows of any great bulk fruit deal please give us a shout as we may need up to 10 or 15 pounds of fresh fruit for this intensive project, some of which will be destined for AHA mead competitions. We'll have a keg of something great out there with us, and I imagine we may even fire up the grill. We realize that there are a ton of activities going on this weekend (as there are most other summer weekends), but hope to see everyone out there. For further directions and info please call me at 948-4504, or call Dylan at 390-8408. Cheers! Brett

Hop Madness is one of the best homebrewing events ever. This year it takes place on Saturday, September 1st (That's Labor Day Weekend) at Willamette Mission State Park. If you haven't been there before, visit the "website":http://www.hopmadness.com to see a short video of last years event and to get specific information. We will meet up with about 6 other homebrew clubs, most from Oregon. Hop bines will be provided so that we can use them in a fresh hopped beer to brew on site (this is also our monthly COHO group brew), plus whatever we want to bring home. We'll go on a tour of a hop farm where we'll see how they are grown, harvested, sorted, dried, and packaged. Where else can you go swimming in a huge hill of hops?! Bring your hoppy beers to enter in the Best Damn Hoppy Beer Contest. And be sure to try everyone else's beers in the People's Choice part of the competition. Dont' worry, we're camping there, so feel free to sample them all. We'll carpool from the brew shop on Saturday morning. See you there!

There's the excitement of a dozen microbreweries in attendance, live music and local food and wine. And, among Washington beer festivals, the premise is specific and unusual. Here's the deal: to create a "fresh hop ale" brewers must get Yakima hops (which provide aroma and flavor to beer) from the vine to the vat within 24 hours to create the headlining ale.

The American Homebrewers Association 9th Annual International Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day is this Saturday! Last year, more than 1200 brewers taught 540 people how to brew at 51 sites, producing over 2,200 gallons of homebrew in the process. Sites were registered in 31 states, and in Canada, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Indonesia, and South Africa. COHO will be celebrating this year’s event at The Brew Shop. Bring yourself and your friends for what is sure to be an extraordinary day of brewing. We will be brewing beer on multiple systems, BBQing some great food, and as always enjoying excellent homebrewed beer. The event starts at 10:30 If you like, please feel free to bring your brewing system and make a batch of beer. The Brew Shop will be open for all your brewing supply needs. And don’t forget to bring a sample of your latest creations to share with the club and other potential brewers. See you there! Questions?????

Greetings fellow fish, Just wanted to throw out a quick reminder about this Sunday's group brew. Jenn Kopp is gracious enough to invite the club back to her unique property for a second round of group brewing. Apparently we didn't do enough damage the first time, with dogs jumping through swimming pool greenhouses and such. This will be an outdoor brew, so please dress accordingly. Jenn has a pretty awesome outdoor fire set up though, and I'm pretty sure we'll be warm enough. The recipe is based on a brew that Evan Clark has been working on with for quite some time, a black steam beer. We're going to hit half of it with a CA lager yeast, while the other half will receive a Mexican lager yeast (resurrected from COHO de Mayo). Jenn's house is at 1545 NW Juniper, at the intersection of Juniper and Portland, on the SW corner. Look for the big three story pad with a cell phone tower on the roof, you can't miss it. Parking is to be found on the the east side of the property, along Juniper. Please enter the property from the east side, as it will give you immediate access to the group brew, as well as the fire pit. If you need help getting there or getting in please call me at 948-4504. Also, please give out a big thanks to Erin Marlowe. She has stepped forth from the ranks to fill the vacant COHO secretary position. Erin has volunteered to fill the position until the club elections, possibly longer, and we are very happy to have her aboard. Her commitment comes at a critical time for the club, with some major projects looming on the horizon. Erin's input will lend to a balanced executive decision process with the absence of Mike and Michelle. Hope to see everyone on Sunday. BT

Happy holidays fellow fish, Here's a reminder about our upcoming Xmas party and meeting next Wednesday the 19th. We'll be at the Jason and Theresa Quade's house (again). We had a great time last year, and look forward to another excellent party. Jason had some pretty good ideas as how to liven things up - "Also I was thinking of playing a rob your neighbor gift exchange. Something that even the people that didn't bring a gift could participate in. This has become a tradition in parts of my family and it proves to be rather fun. It basically involves a bunch of cheap gifts ie. a bottle of NA beer and a few sets of dice people chose gifts until they run out and then start steeling from each other until a timer runs out and then you open what you have. Thought this might give a little more holiday spirit to the meeting. " Come prepared, I see a big bottle of malt liquor in someone's future. We'll have a very brief meeting to cover some club business, including a quick raffle. COHO does have a huge announcement to make this month, so come out and hear us! We'll be sampling from an awesome keg of Appleton rum French oak aged stout. This beer is one of the best COHO beers to date, very tasty. Food will be a potluck style, so bring your best grub with you. There's a link to a map on the bottom of the page, hope to see you all next Wednesday. This months Group Brew will be this Saturday, January 5th at Marlowe Manor (please don’t mess around with the glass egg on the mantle). Geoff Marlowe will be hosting the event and we will be brewing a strong Scotch ale on the Wort Hawg. Thanks to Chris Kate for volunteering to bring his system to brew on. The specifics of the recipe are still being worked out and will be posted soon. Anybody have any thoughts, ideas or experience they would like to contribute to the recipe? There‘s good shelter from the elements in Geoff’s garage, so bring some snacks and a sample of your latest brew for what is guaranteed to be a great time. The burners will fire up around 10:30AM. Greeting fellow fish, We'll be having our monthly meeting this Wednesday, at 6:30PM, at the Brew Shop. We'll be "sampling" COHO Blackfish lager, which has turned out almost like a Schwarzbier as far as I can tell. I'm curious to see how it stands up to Silver Moon's very tasty, exceptionally well made Schwarzbier. We have plenty of things to discuss such as our huge barrel aged beer project, the KLCC competition, and our upcoming COHO Spring Fling homebrew competition and related workshops. I'm not sure what we're doing for food, but I do have six bags of chips that were donated to the club, so perhaps some type of dips would be appropriate? As always we'll be having our raffle, so bring out something good to donate to the cause. Hope to see everyone on Wednesday evening. Cheers! BT ****Also, don't forget that this meeting will serve as a drop off location for the KLCC competition!****
