The 2009 COHO SmaSH (Single Malt and Single Hop) Homebrew Competition will kick off our 4th anniversary celebration weekend. The competition will take place at The Brew Shop on Friday, November 20th from 6:30PM until 8:30PM. The event will feature both a judged competition and a people’s choice award. Here are the rules –
• The SmaSH competition is a CLUB ONLY function. You must be a current dues paid member of the club to enter beers into this event.
• Any one variety of base malt shall be used. Any portion of this base malt may be “modified.” This would include techniques such as baking, roasting, toasting, smoking, etc. of the malt.
• Extract and partial mash brewers are limited only to the pilsner liquid malt extract available at The Brew Shop. If brewing a partial mash beer, you may use any type of pilsner malt in conjunction with your pilsner extract.
• Any one variety of hops shall be used.
• Any yeast strain, or combination of yeast strains, may be used.
• Flavor additives are strictly prohibited in this competition. This would include, but not be limited to, items such as fruits, vegetables, spices, sugars, herbs, extracts, and adjuncts. Entries should consist of water, hops, yeast, and barley ONLY.
• The cost is $5 per entry, with a limit of two entries per club member. Please make checks payable to Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization.
• Entries shall consist of 4 x 12 oz bottles, 2 x 22 oz bottles, 2 x qt mason jars, or 1 x growler.
• Entries must be submitted by BJCP categories, with required SMaSH labels, and will be judged accordingly during the judged portion of the competition.
• Please deliver entries to The Brew Shop by 5:30PM on Friday, November 20th.
• Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in the judged portion of the event. Prizes will be awarded for people’s choice and people’s choice runner up in the publicly judged portion of the event.
