Original Gravity question
Do I have a problem here?
I have been doing 5 gallon all grain brewing for about 9 months now and have brewed perhaps 10 batches.. I use a system similar to Brewshop Tom's....i.e. two 5 gallon Rubbermaid Orange coolers...one has the large round stainless steel false bottom which is the mash tun.
Most of the recipes I have been brewing are from the BYO 150 Clone recipe magazine...you know the one. It contains well known beer (clone) recipes. I have been trying to see how close I can get to duplicating (cloning) some decent beer.
My situation is that in most of the batches I brew, I end up with the correct amount of wort (5 gallons ± a quart or two in the primary fermentor). However my original gravity (OG) measured at about 68° F before I pitch the yeast is generally 5 to 10 gravity points higher than the recipe says.
What am I doing wrong?

Gary's OG
Hey Gary, I don't think having a higher gravity is a problem in fact thats a good thing, could be your grain weight or water water quantity is different or your system has a better efficiency than the big brewers ;p my problem is I'm usally under the OG Cheers Jerry
